DESCRIPTION
Sheep: The number of ewes and rams is approximately 1,850, with an estimated production of 1,400 lambs per year.
Pigs: The farm has the capacity for 70 breeding sows and 3 boars. The dehesa areas have a production capacity of 320 acorn-fed pigs. These productions are adjusted according to the conditions of the pork markets. Currently, the livestock farming system is closed-cycle (piglets are raised on the farm), but there are plans to switch to an open-cycle system (buying piglets and juveniles).
The approximate area of the oak groves is 350 hectares, sufficient to support the production of 320 high-quality acorn-fed pigs, which are currently sold to Sánchez Romero Carvajal. The area is divided into four main enclosures to facilitate the management of the pigs.
There are 350 hectares of arable land. The main crops produced are oats, barley, and wheat or triticale. Additionally, a legume is sown each year, with peas and broad beans being planted in recent years. Finally, a mix of cereals with a composition we consider optimal for livestock feed is sown. Part of this sowing is harvested as hay for feeding the sheep.
Each year, the cultivated areas are rotated, leaving between 25% and 30% of the available land fallow. The agricultural production is mainly used for livestock feed, with only the surplus being sold in years of high yield.
